Google announces Titan Security Key for added account security

Google Titan Security Key official two-factor authentication product

Two-factor authentication is a great way to add security to your important online accounts, and today Google announced a new product to help take your 2FA up a notch.

The Titan Security Key is a new physical security product from Google that'll come in two forms: a Bluetooth version for use with mobile devices and one that'll plug right into your computer's USB port. Google says that the Titan Security Key is FIDO-compatible.

Google's new security key can help you protect against phishing attacks and help keep your accounts and your data secure. While there are plenty of 2FA options available for services, including text message verification codes and trusted devices, the Titan Security Key is a step-up since its a physical key that only you have access to.

Google says that the Titan Security Key is now available to Google Cloud customers and that it'll soon be available for anyone to purchase on the Google Store. There's no word yet on how much it might cost, though.

Account security is important, even if you're not a high-profile public figure. People often store a lot of personal data in their online accounts, and so adding more security to keep your data safe is important. That's why everyone should apply 2FA to their accounts when possible, and if you don't mind ponying up for it, buying a Titan Security Key or similar device would be a good idea.
