After launching a new-look Gmail for the web earlier this year, it looks like Google could be preparing new designs for several of its Android apps, too.
A video that appears to show updated versions of Google apps with new designs appeared online this week. The video was made by Adam Grabowski and Nicolo Bianchino, who aren't Google employees themselves but have worked with Google in the past. In fact, the description for the video says that the two "worked together with the Google Material Design team to create a piece showcasing their updated design system for their internal teams."
The original video has been pulled down, but not before several screenshots of its contents were taken and the video reuploaded. The video shows new designs for Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive, and more. Overall, the updated designs seem much more in line with Google other recent design updates, showing more white backgrounds and rounded corners. As you can see above, the Gmail app lost its red accents and also added a bottom navigation bar, while the Google Photos redesign shown below ditches the light gray background and adds new icons.
It's worth mentioning that these Google app redesigns are not official, and there's no guarantee that they'll even see a public release. Instead, they're mockups made to show what the apps could look like with an updated look. It does sound like the mockups were made in collaboration with Google, though, so there's a chance that we'll see these new-look apps pushed out publicly at some point.
What do you think of these redesigned Google apps?
