AT&T touts successful mobile 5G browsing session with mobile hotspot

AT&T 5G Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot

Days after AT&T said that it plans to launch its mobile 5G service in the coming weeks, the big blue carrier has dropped a little more 5G info.

AT&T touts that it has completed the world's first millimeter wave (mmWave) mobile 5G browsing session using a standards-based device on a mobile 5G network. The test was completed in Waco, TX using a Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot, which AT&T says will be a commercially available 5G device.

AT&T plans to launch its mobile 5G coverage in the next few weeks. It hasn't said exactly where that launch will happen, but we do know that AT&T plans to deploy mobile 5G in parts of 12 cities in 2018: Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Louisville, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Raleigh, San Antonio, and Waco. The carrier has said that it plans to expand its mobile 5G to parts of Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose in early 2019.

As for the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot, AT&T says that it'll share more details about that device later this year.
