Google upgrading SD and HD movies to 4K, says 4K films will now cost less

Good news, Google Play users: Google is giving your movies a 4K upgrade.

Google announced today that any movies you own through Google Play Movies & TV will be automatically upgraded to 4K when available. So any films that you've previously bought in SD or HD quality will be bumped up to 4K quality free of charge when that title is available in 4K quality.

That's not the only big 4K news that Google has to share today. The company says that most 4K movies in the Play Store will now cost you less, which means 4K TV owners can fully enjoy their sets for cheaper.

Google says that its Play Movies & TV app now supports 4K on most 4K Samsung Smart TVs, joining 4K Sony Bravia TVs, and that it's working on adding support for LG, too. Finally, Google has updated its smart TV app for Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs "with a modern look and feel to provide a better experience."

This is all great news for 4K TV owners. When you get a 4K television, you want to get content to take advantage of the higher resolution, and now Google is making that easier for folks who use Play Movies & TV.
