Verizon names Houston as a 5G city

Verizon today identified its third 5G city.

Verizon will deploy 5G in Houston beginning in the second half of 2018. Houston joins Sacramento and Los Angeles as the first three of Verizon's initial four-city 5G rollout plan. Verizon previously said that 5G will go live in Los Angeles in Q4 2018.

It's worth mentioning that Verizon's 5G service won't be mobile, at least not at the start. Instead, it'll be a residential 5G broadband service that'll power your home internet. The service will use millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum, which is the high-band spectrum that can provide super fast speeds but is not great at reaching extremely far distances or at penetrating buildings.
