Samsung's Android Go phone leaks in hands-on photos

Samsung Android Go Galaxy J2 Core hands-on photos leak

Days after we learned that Samsung may be prepping an Android Go device, photos of that handset have leaked out.

The first thing that you'll notice about  Samsung's Android Go phone, which is rumored to be called the Galaxy J2 Core, is that it's not running stock Android like most other Android Go devices. There are custom Samsung navigation buttons and custom Samsung app icons. Google's Android Go site doesn't say anything about stock Android being a requirement, though, only that Android Go is meant to offer "a powerful experience for entry-level smartphones" with lighter apps.

Other details about this Samsung Android Go phone shown in the leaked photos is that it's running Android 8.1 with the December 2017 Android security patches, though that'll likely be updated before the phone is released to the public. We can also see a rear camera with LED flash.

There's no word on when Samsung will launch its first Android Go device or what kind of features it'll have. Considering that it's an Android Go smartphone, though, expect it to be a fairly entry-level phone. That may not be super exciting for those of us that love high-end specs and flagship phones, but this Samsung device is a big deal because it's a new Android Go smartphone that should have an affordable price, and it's coming from one of the biggest phone makers in the world.
