Essential Phone gets July 2018 security update, new Android P beta release

Essential Phone hands-on video review

Today's been a big day for software updates thanks to the release of Android P Beta 3 and the July 2018 security updates, and now Essential is making the day even better.

Essential today released two notable software updates. First up, it's now pushing the July 2018 Android security patches to the Essential Phone over the air. The update is going out over the air as build OPM1.180104.267, and in addition to the new security patches, it includes Android Auto stability improvements.

If you've opted to run the Android P beta on your Essential Phone, there's a new update for you as well. Essential is sending out a new Android P beta build that includes the aforementioned July 2018 Android security patches, Android Auto improvements, and "the latest Google Code Drop."

Essential Phone owners on the stable, public software should get their update with the July 2018 Android security patches in the coming days. Those Essential Phone owners that are running the Android P should get the latest beta build over the air, too. If you're not on the Android P beta but you'd like to load it onto your Essential Phone, you can sideload the update by going here.

Essential has been spot-on with its software updates, regularly releasing monthly security updates within days of Google's updates for Nexus and Pixel phones. Today Essential kept that streak alive, releasing the latest Android security patches and a new Android P beta on the same day as Google. That's exciting for current Essential Phone owners and is sure to build more loyalty from them as well as get others more interested in Essential.
