Today’s a big day for YouTube, as the video streaming site unveils a new logo and some changes to its mobile app and desktop site.
First up, the updated YouTube icon moves the “Tube” from YouTube out of the red tube. The red tube moves to the left of the YouTube name and now features the play button. YouTube says that the updated logo and icon are more flexible and work across a variety of devices, and they’ll both be rolling out across the mobile and desktop versions of YouTube starting today.
YouTube today also detailed the recent changes that it’s made to its mobile app. These include a white header to place more of a focus on the video content; gestures, like one that’s coming later this year that’ll let you jump between videos by swiping left and right; support for speeding up and slowing down playback on mobile; and a YouTube video player that’ll adapt to the video format you’re watching, whether its vertical, square, or horizontal.
Meanwhile, the desktop version of YouTube is getting a new design that’s rolling out around the globe today. This new-look YouTube features a Material Design that aims to place the focus on the video content.
