Remember that new Fitbit smartwatch that we heard rumblings about way back in May? Well today it and a couple of other new products have been made official.
The Fitbit Ionic is a new fitness-focused smartwatch. It’s got PurePulse heart tracking technology that Fitbit says offers greater accuracy during high-intensity exercises like cycling, weight-lifting, and elliptical. The Ionic also offers real-time stats for more than 20 activities, including martial arts, Pilates, tennis, walking, and swimming.
Other exercise features of the Fitbit Ionic include a Run Detect feature that’ll automatically track your heart rate, pace, distance, elevation, and split times, an interval timer, and a GPS for route tracking. And if you’d like to track your sleep, too, you can use the Ionic’s Slepe Stages and Sleep Insights features to measure your light, deep, and REM sleep stages.
Fitbit also has a new Ionic OS for its smartwatch that offers apps and clock faces that you can install on your Ionic. There will be apps from Pandora, Strava, Weather, and Starbucks at launch.
Rounding out the Fitbit Ionic’s feature set is 2.5GB of built-in storage for music; support for notifications from smartphone apps like Facebook, Gmail, Instagram, Slack, and Snapchat; and Fitbit Pay, which lets you make contactless payments. In the coming months, Fitbit Ionic owners will be able to add American Express cards as well as Mastercard and Visa credit and debut cards from the top issuing banks in more than 10 markets around the globe.
Fitbit says that the Ionic’s battery can last up to four days on a single charge, but that number will drop to 10 hours when using GPS or playing music.
The Fitbit Ionic is now available for pre-order for $299.95 and will launch in stores in October 2017.
Also announced today are the Fitbit Flyer headphones. These Bluetooth earbuds boast a hydrophobic nanocoating to resist sweat and rain, and they offer up to six hours of battery life on a single charge. If you just need a little bit of juice for your upcoming workout, you can get an hour’s worth of power in 15 minutes.
The Fitbit Flyer headphones are now available for pre-order from Fitbit for $129.95 and will also launch in October 2017.
Fitbit today introduced a new Aria 2 smart scale, too. The Fitbit Aria 2 measures weight, body fat percentage, and BMI and includes support for up to eight users.
The Aria 2 is now available for preorder for $129.95.
