Would you consider the Sony Xperia XZ4 as your next daily driver?

Sony Xperia XZ4

Word on the street is that Sony is planning on unveiling the Xperia XZ4 during Mobile World Congress next year. That trade show doesn't start until the end of February, but it's safe to say that we'll see plenty of the Xperia XZ4 ahead of its official unveiling. The specs and features will more than likely get revealed ahead of that announcement, and you'll probably get a pretty clear picture of what to expect.

That means anyone who is going to be in the market for a new smartphone in early 2019, and who pays attention to the rumors, will be able to determine if the Xperia XZ4 is going to be their next daily driver even before Sony announces anything. I imagine Sony, like other companies, would much rather have the phone be an actual surprise, but that's typically just not how it works.

For the potential buyer, though, the rumors can help quite a bit, as long as you're willing to accept that some things may change in the final product.

But even the first batch of images we've seen of the Xperia XZ4 might be enough for someone to make up their mind. The handset will reportedly have a 6.5-inch display, which is definitely pretty big. And the bezels are shrinking, but not as much as we've seen in other handsets. Sony isn't adopting the notch, after all. The fingerprint reader is on the side, Sony's apparently including a physical camera shutter button, and there isn't a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Any one of those individual details may be enough to sway a decision well in advance of an official announcement. But of course it will come down to the finer points, like geographic availability and, more than anything else, pricing. Someone may be totally on board with everything Sony's Xperia XZ4 is rumored to offer, but if Sony prices it out of that person's acceptable range, well, then it really doesn't matter what they like about the phone.

I haven't seen a Sony-branded smartphone out in the wild in a very long time. And seeing the Xperia XZ4 leak out earlier today got me thinking: Will this be the handset to change that? It does have the big screen, the small bezels, and three cameras on the back. It will probably have some noteworthy high-end specs, too. But will any of that really matter in a market dominated by Apple and Samsung, and with other companies like OnePlus vying for attention?

We don't know a lot about the Xperia XZ4 right now, aside from what I've mentioned above. If we take what we do know about the Xperia XZ4 (the features mentioned above) and pack it all in with high-end specs like 6GB of RAM or more, 128GB of built-in storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and an OLED display with high resolution, is this a device you'd consider picking up? Let me know!
