We've seen several smartphone makers embrace the notch as a way to offer a bit more screen on their devices, but soon Huawei will launch a device that uses a different method to get more screen real estate.
New images show what's said to be the Huawei Nova 4, an unannounced device with a hole in the upper left corner of the screen. This hole is home to the front-facing camera, meaning the Nova 4 doesn't have to have a notch at the top of its screen. We can see a bit of a chin at the bottom of the display, too.
While Huawei hasn't made any official announcements about this device, an image from the company appears to tease an upcoming phone with a cutout in its upper left corner.
Some folks really don't care for smartphone notches, so this display cutout could be a good alternative. It appears to be in a spot where it'll live in an Android phone's status bar, taking up less space than most notches and being off to the side of the screen rather than centered.
Huawei isn't the only company that's expected to launch a new phone with a cutout in its display. Samsung, which teased its Infinity-O screen with a cutout earlier this month, is reportedly planning to launch the Galaxy A8s with a front-facing camera cutout in the screen. The Galaxy A8s is expected to arrive sometime in the next couple of months.
