Alcatel 1 features Android Go and 5-inch display, now available unlocked in the U.S.

Alcatel 1 Android Go

If you're in the market for a low-cost new Android smartphone, the Alcatel 1 has officially made its way to the U.S. today.

The Alcatel 1 has launched at Amazon. It's available unlocked with GSM support, meaning it'll work on carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S. Also notable about the Alcatel 1 is that it runs Android Oreo (Go edition), which means that it comes with fewer preinstalled apps, and those that are preloaded are smaller in size to conserve storage space.

Specs for the Alcatel 1 include a 5-inch 960x480 display, 5MP rear camera (interpolated to 8MP) with 1080p video capture, 2MP front camera (interpolated to 5MP), and a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor. It comes with 8GB of built-in storage, but there's also a microSD card slot so that you can add more storage if you want it.

Rounding out the Alcatel 1's spec list is 1GB of RAM, FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, HD Voice support, and a 2000mAh battery. It runs Android Oreo (Go edition) along with some custom Alcatel features like Instant Collage, Social Square, and Photo Booth camera modes.

While the Alcatel 1 does come with fairly entry-level specs, it's got a low price tag to match. Android Go also helps to bring performance and storage improvements to the device.
