We've seen Samsung and Huawei both announce foldable smartphones in the past week, and now TCL has revealed that it's intends to compete in the foldables market, too.
TCL this week announced its DragonHinge technology that'll enable it to offer foldable handsets. The company is also using custom flexible AMOLED displays from its sister company CSOT.
To help show what DragonHinge can do, TCL showed off some prototype flexible devices at MWC 2019. As spotted by CNET, one device opened up like a book, while another was skinny and long with DragonHinge all along its back, letting you wrap the display outward and wear the device like a wrist.
TCL expects to have its first consumer-ready foldable device launch in 2020.
There's a lot of excitement and interest around foldable devices right now, and now we know that TCL has some foldable plans of its own. The foldable market is still very young, though, and so it makes sense for some companies to hold off a bit, let foldables mature some more, and let consumers and device makers learn more about foldable devices.
