HMD Global today took the wraps off of its newest Nokia flagship, and just like the rumors suggested, it's got five rear cameras.
The Nokia 9 PureView features five 12MP rear cameras with ZEISS optics. Those five cameras include two RGB sensors and three monochrome lenses. When you snap a photo, the five cameras capture the image and then fuse it together into one 12MP photo. Each photo is shot in HDR, and the cameras also offer depth mode that'll let you re-focus your shots later in Google Photos.
There are some pro-level camera features included in the Nokia 9 PureView, too, like the ability to take photos in RAW DNG format to retain more details than a JPEG. That'll come in handy when you edit photos, which you can do using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom on the device. You can also use the Pro Camera UI when you're snapping a photo to make adjustments to white balance, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure time. And with the three monochrome sensors you can shoot natively in monochrome mode rather than converting a photo to monochrome after it's taken.
While that penta-lens setup may be the highlight feature of the Nokia 9 PureView, it does have a high-end spec list to back up that five camera array. There's a 5.99-inch QHD+ pOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. HMD has included a 20MP front-facing camera for all your selfie needs, and there's a 3320mAh battery along with USB-C and Qi wireless charging support for recharging that battery. All those features are crammed into a body that's got IP67 water and dust resistance.
On the software side, the Nokia 9 PureView runs Android 9 Pie with Android One software.
The Nokia 9 PureView is now shipping and is priced at $699. It looks like a solid flagship, offering a good-looking design and competitive specs, but the five rear cameras are the main focus here. We're looking forward to seeing how those five snappers perform in the real world, but if mobile photography is something you're serious about, the Nokia 9 PureView is one device to keep an eye on.
