Google posts October 2018 Android security patches for Pixel and Nexus devices

Google Pixel 2 XL hands-on

The start of a new month means new Android security patches.

Google today announced the October 2018 security patches and released new updates for Pixel and Nexus phones. If you've got a recent Pixel or Nexus device, be on the lookout for this new batch of Android security patches in the coming days. Alternately, you can sideload your phone's factory image or OTA image.

Along with this new update, Google has released its latest Android security bulletin, which details the fixes found in the update. There are patches for vulnerabilities related to Android's framework, media framework, system, and more.

Pixel and Nexus owners have a few functional patches to look forward to in this new update as well. Google says that it's improved the fast-charging behavior for the Pixel and Pixel XL, improved performance for certain protected media formats for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, and improved Android Auto stability on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. It's also modified Call Screening behavior when using Maps Navigation for all Pixel and Nexus devices.
