Following the recent launch of the Galaxy S8 Active, Samsung has now given the Active treatment to an Android tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 is now official. Because it’s got that Active branding, the Galaxy Tab Active 2 features a 1.2m anti-shock protective cover. It’s also MIL-STD-810 certified, which means that it can withstand excessive pressure, temperature, vibrations, and drops, and it’s IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.
Samsung says that its new tablet also includes an improved touch mode for using the Galaxy Tab Active 2 with gloved or wet hands.
When it comes to raw specs, the Galaxy Tab Active 2 is packing an 8-inch 1280x800 display, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and 4G LTE connectivity. It’s also got an octa-core Exynos 7870 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 4,450mAh battery. On the software side, Samsung’s new tablet is running Android 7.1 Nougat.
One other notable feature of the Galaxy Tab Active 2 is its S Pen. Like the tablet itself, the S Pen is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.
The Galaxy Tab Active 2 will launch in October 2017 in select, undisclosed markets. No pricing details have been announced.
While it’s not the most high-end Android tablet around, the Galaxy Tab Active 2’s rugged design and IP68 rating should make it a nice device for folks that do work outdoors.
