AT&T is in the process of rolling out its 5G Evolution service in select U.S. cities, and today the big blue carrier introduced the first mobile hotspot device that can access that coverage.
The Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router is a new AT&T 5G Evolution-compatible device that’s launching this Friday, October 27th. Pricing will be set at $49.99 with a two-year contract. This is a promotional price that’ll be available through December 7th, 2017.
Netgear’s Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router can connect with AT&T’s 5G Evolution service, which uses LTE Advanced technologies like 256 QAM, 4x4 MIMO, and 3 Carrier Aggregation to offer faster speeds. 5G Evolution is available in Austin, Texas and Indianapolis, Indiana, with plans to expand to other metro areas like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, and San Francisco.
This new mobile hotspot also includes a display for showing you things like data usage, the number of devices connected to your hotspot, and more. The Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router can connect up to 20 devices at once, and it’s got a 5,040mAh battery that offers up to 24 hours of battery life.
Other features of the Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router include concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, parental controls, support for sharing media over USB or microSD, and the ability to offload via Wi-Fi or Ethernet to save your data plan usage. You can also use the JumpBoost feature to charge smartphones and small USB devices using the Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router.
