Xfinity Mobile service launches with unlimited data plan deal

Last month, Comcast revealed that it was finally getting into the wireless business with Xfinity Mobile. Now the service is officially live.

Xfinity Mobile has launched, offering service on Verizon’s 4G LTE network to existing Xfinity internet customers. There are two rate plans available, with one charging $12 per gigabyte of data along with unlimited talk and text.

The other plan includes unlimited data as well as unlimited talk and text. Normally this plan is $45 per month per line for Xfinity X1 internet customers and $65 per month for everyone else, but until July 31, all Xfinity internet customers can get the unlimited data plan for $45 per month per line.

There are a few other tidbits worth noting about Xfinity Mobile. For example, there are no line access fees and service includes access to 16 million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots. Additionally, unlimited data customers that use more than 20GB of data per month will have their speeds reduced to a maximum of 1.5Mbps.

Xfinity Mobile does not allow you to bring your own device to the service. That means that you’ll need to buy one of the 12 phones that Comcast currently sells, including the Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, and LG X power.

There’s no shortage of MVNO options out there, but if you’re looking for cellphone service and you’re an Xfinity internet customer, Xfinity Mobile could be worth a look. The $45 per month price for an unlimited data plan is pretty nice, especially when you remember that Verizon asks $85 per month for an unlimited data plan.
