Earlier this year, AT&T teased that its 5G Evolution service would be launching soon. Now the big blue carrier has revealed more details on its plans.
AT&T says that its 5G Evolution service is now live in parts of Austin, Texas, and that Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners can take advantage of these new network features.
Meanwhile, AT&T plans to launch 5G Evolution in Indianapolis, Ind., this summer. In the months following that launch, AT&T will activate its 5G Evolution service in Atlanta, Ga.; Boston, Mass.; Chicago, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Nashville, Tenn.; San Francisco, Calif.; and other metros.
AT&T’s 5G Evolution service uses network technologies like 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM, and carrier aggregation to boost download speeds. So while this isn’t true 5G wireless, AT&T customers with compatible smartphones should see faster download speeds when they’re in an area with this 5G Evolution tech.
