After months of rumors, Samsung today revealed its updated version of the Galaxy Note 7.
The Galaxy Note Fan Edition is now official. Samsung plans to launch this new Note in South Korea on July 7th at a price of 699,600 KRW ($611 USD). It’s expected that 400,000 units will be offered, with sales in other markets to be determined later.
Samsung says that the Galaxy Note Fan Edition is made up of recalled Note 7 units and unused Note 7 parts. The device includes a 3200mAh battery, down from the Note 7’s 3500mAh battery, and Samsung is trying to assuage any worries that the Galaxy Note Fan Edition may overheat like the Note 7 by putting the Galaxy Note Fan Edition’s battery through an 8-point battery safety test.
Another notable feature of the Galaxy Note Fan Edition is that its software has been updated to match the Galaxy S8’s. That includes support for Bixby features like Bixby Home and Bixby Reminders.
Finally, this new Note will include “Galaxy Note Fan Edition” branding on its backside and will be offered in Black Onyx, Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium color options.
It may seem kind of strange for Samsung to offer this Galaxy Note Fan Edition just months ahead of the expected debut of the Galaxy Note 8, but Samsung explains that the move is eco-friendly because it minimizes the waste from the Note 7 recall. Plus, while the Galaxy Note Fan Edition isn’t exactly cheap, it’s likely a good bit cheaper than a new Galaxy Note 8 will cost, so this device could be a more affordable alternative to Samsung’s next Note.
If the Galaxy Note Fan Edition were offered in your country, would you buy one?
