Google Pixel XL 2017 reportedly shown off in render leak

Google Pixel XL 2017 render leak

Google’s new Pixel phones are some of the most hotly-anticipated smartphones for the second half of 2017, and today we may be getting a look at one of those devices.

New renders have been shared by Android Police that show what’s expected to be the overall design of Google’s 2017 Pixel XL, codenamed Taimen. The device will reportedly be manufactured by LG, and while it has similar design elements to last year’s Pixel XL, there are quite a few changes here.

Around back we can see a smaller glass panel that houses the rear camera, which has a silver ring around it, as well as a fingerprint reader that’s below the glass panel. There aren’t any visible antenna bands, but it’s possible that Google is just planning to color them to match the body of the phone.

The front of this device is a dramatic change from the original Pixel XL. This 2017 Pixel XL has a 6-inch AMOLED display with a 2:1 aspect ratio similar to the tall screens found on the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8. The top and bottom bezels have been shrunken dramatically compared to the 2016 Pixel XL and the side bezels look pretty slim, too. AP does caution, though, that this display is flat and not curved.

Finally, today’s report claims that the 2017 Pixel XL will offer a squeezable frame, similar to the one found on the HTC U11. It’s expected that this feature will let you interact with Google Assistant.

There are no spec details given in this report, but a separate leak recently suggested that the 2017 Pixel XL could offer a 2560x1440 OLED display, Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 128GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM.

One last bit of info that is included in AP’s report is that Google’s smaller Pixel for 2017 could look largely similar to last year’s Pixel. This could position it as the more affordable, entry-level model.

We’ll have to wait until Google announces its new Pixel phones before we know for sure that they’ll look like, but this alleged 2017 Pixel XL design looks pretty solid. While the original Pixel XL doesn’t look bad, its big bezels aren’t very pretty when compared to the G6 and Galaxy S8 and their tall screens with slim bezels. This alleged 2017 Pixel XL looks pretty good, and while it’s probably not going to be cheap, folks that spring for this year’s Pixel XL will be rewarded with an attractive, modern-looking device if this leaked design holds true.

What do you think of this leaked 2017 Pixel XL design?
