LG Pay officially launches

LG Pay official launch

More than a year and a half after originally being confirmed, LG Pay is finally launching.

LG Pay is now live in South Korea, and it’s compatible with the LG G6. LG says that it plans to add support to other devices in the future.

LG’s mobile payment service supports four banks at launch — Shinhan, KB, BC, and Lotte — and LG plans to add all South Korean banks by September.

LG Pay uses Wireless Magnetic Communication technology, which enables you to pay by tapping your phone to a standard credit card terminal. The service can store up to 10 credit cards, and like other services, you’ll need to use your fingerprint to actually make a payment with your device.

There’s no word on when or if LG Pay will expand to other countries. LG is getting into the mobile payments game much later than rivals Apple, Google, and Samsung, but LG Pay’s WMC tech does give it a leg up on Apple Pay and Android Pay by enabling users to pay at standard credit card terminals rather than relying on NFC-equipped terminals, which aren’t as widespread.
