Recently we’ve seen a couple of companies offer modular-style smartphones, with Motorola and LG both selling devices that let you snap on accessories to add new features. Now Alcatel is trying its hand at the concept.
The Alcatel Pulsemix is now official, and it’s launching at Cricket Wireless on July 21. Pricing for the Pulsemix will be set at $79.99 with activation on a smartphone plan. If you port your number to Cricket from another carrier and activate the Pulsemix on a smartphone plan, you can get the device for $29.99.
The highlight feature of the Pulsemix are its Snapbak covers. These accessories attach to the back of the Pulsemix and add new features to the device. The three Snapbak accessories that’ll be available include:
- LightUp Snapbak: Customizable, multicolor flashing LED lights will illuminate for incoming calls, messages, emails, and other incoming alerts.
- Sound Snapbak: Adds two 2.5 watt speakers to give your Pulsemix better sound.
- Power Snapbak: Extended battery pack to give your Pulsemix longer life between charges.
When it comes to specs, the Alcatel Pulsemix runs Android 7.0 Nougat on a 5.2-inch 1280x720 display. It’s also got an 8-megapixel rear camera with dual tone flash as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with its own LED flash.
Inside the Pulsemix lives a quad-core MediaTek 6738 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2800mAh battery that you charge over USB Type-C. Also of note is that the Pulsemix supports VoLTE and will gain support for Wi-Fi calling via a future update.
