Honor 9 official with 20MP and 12MP rear cameras, now starting global rollout

Honor 9 Glacier Grey official

The Honor 9 made its official debut in China earlier this month, and now Huawei has revealed when it’ll bring its newest Honor device to markets outside of China.

The Honor 9 will launch in the UK, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy. When it comes to pricing, Honor 9 will start at £379.99/€449,90.

Huawei has given the Honor 9 a few spec upgrades over the Honor 8 that launched last year. For example, the Honor 9’s dual rear camera setup includes a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 12-megapixel RGB sensor, up from the Honor 8’s dual 12-megapixel rear cameras. The monochrome sensor helps to capture better contrast and more details, says Huawei, and it can also be used on its own to take true monochrome photos.

The Honor 9 also offers an octa-core Kirin 960 processor, which is the same chipset found in Huawei’s flagship P10. Other features of the Honor 9 include 4GB/6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, dual SIM slots, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, NFC, and a 3,200mAh battery. It runs Huawei’s custom EMUI 5.1 interface, based on Android Nougat, on a 5.15-inch 1920x1080 display.

Finally, Huawei is touting the Honor 9’s audio capabilities. The company partnered with Grammy award-winning producer Rainer Maillard to optimize the Honor 9’s sound quality. Also included is Honor Purity, an Honor 9-exclusive sound equlaizer developed by Monster, and Huawei Histin, which offers three sound modes for different user scenarios.

All of those features are packed into a body with what Huawei calls a “3D glass back” with 15 layers. There’s also a sandblasted metal bezel surrounding the Honor 9. Color options include Glacier Gray, Sapphire Blue, and Midnight Black.

Huawei also revealed the new Honor Band 3 today. This activity tracker and monitor heart rate, track sleep quality, and keep your running records. It’s water resistant up to 50 meters and is touted as having a battery that’ll last up to 30 days on a single charge. It’s also got a 0.91-inch black and white PMOLED display and support for Android and iOS.

The Honor Band 3 comes in Dynamic Orange, Classic Navy Blue, and Carbon Black.
