Samsung Project V leak shows off cancelled foldable smartphone

Samsung Project V hands-on photo leak

Samsung has said that it's working on a foldable smartphone that'll make its debut later this year. Before it does, though, a new leak is giving us a peek at a previous foldable Samsung phone that didn't make it to market.

Photos that show Samsung's Project V phone have leaked out. The images show a foldable device with two screens, similar to the ZTE Axon M that launched earlier this year.

This Project V device is said to have the model number SM-G929F, and it's got a design that's reminiscent of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7. We can see microUSB and 3.5mm ports on the bottom of the device, a home button below the main screen, and a camera with flash above the main display.

Spec details for this Project V phone aren't known. One thing we do know, though, is that the phone has been cancelled and will not be released to the public.

Samsung is one of the biggest electronics companies in the world and one of the biggest players in mobile, so it's no surprise to learn that it cooked up a foldable phone that it ultimately decided not to release. The company likely regularly comes up with ideas and prototypes that don't see the light of day. It's tough to say whether this Project V would've had any success if it was released to the public, but because it's made by Samsung, it might've had the best shot at popularity of all the foldable phones we've seen to date.
