BlackBerry KEY2 launching in the U.S. on July 13th

BlackBerry KEY2 official

We learned all about the BlackBerry KEY2 last month, save for one important detail: its launch date. Now that information has finally been revealed, too.

The BlackBerry KEY2 will launch in the U.S. on July 13th. It'll be available from Amazon and BestBuy.com for $649.99. If you'd like to secure a KEY2 before it hits stores, you'll be able to pre-order beginning June 29th.

The KEY2 is the newest BlackBerry smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. That keyboard has been improved by the KEYone with 20 percent higher key height as well as a matte key finish and fret design for more comfortable typing. Also of note is that there's a fingerprint reader bult in to the space bar and a Speed Key that'll let you use your 52 keyboard shortcuts without returning to your home screen.

Other hardware features of the BlackBerry KEY2 include a 4.5-inch 1620x1080 display, octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor, 64GB or 128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. There's also a 3500mAh battery powering the whole package, dual 12MP rear cameras, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android 8.1 with BlackBerry apps preinstalled.

There are a lot of nice upgrades included in the KEY2 compared to the KEYone, and that improved keyboard ought to make anyone that still pines for a physical QWERTY below their thumbs very happy. The KEY2 may not be for everyone, as a lot of people are perfectly happy typing on glass, but it's great to see one company still churning out phones with hardware keyboards to keep that hardware choice alive.
