After being announced at Google I/O 2016, Android Instant Apps is now finally ready for live testing.
Google today said that it’s kicking off the initial live testing of its Android Instant Apps feature. It’s only available for select apps right now, which include BuzzFeed, Wish, Periscope, and Viki, but will expand to more apps and users as Google gathers feedback.
The Android Instant Apps feature is meant to give you the experience of using an app without forcing you to actually download it. For example, you could watch a BuzzFeed video without installing the dedicated BuzzFeed Video app. This works by breaking the app up into different modules and then loading the specific one that you need when you click on a link. If you decide you do want to install the full app, you’ll be able to do so from the Instant App.
Apps typically offer a better user experience than the web, but sometimes you don’t want to spend the time, bandwidth, or storage space downloading an app. With Android Instant Apps, that won’t be an issue.
