Moto G5 Plus on Verizon unable to call 911 due to software issue

Moto G5 Plus hands-on video

Moto G5 Plus owners, there’s a serious issue with the G5 Plus and Verizon that you should be aware of.

Lenovo has confirmed that there’s a software issue with Moto G5 Plus phones on Verizon. The bug prevents the Moto G5 Plus on Verizon from calling 911 when VoLTE is enabled.

A fix for this issue is expected to go out within the next week, but until then, Moto G5 Plus owners on Verizon should go into Settings > …More > Cellular networks and turn off the Enhanced 4G LTE Mode. This means that you’ll be unable to make calls and use data simultaneously, but you will be able to call 911.

Being unable to call 911 is a pretty significant issue, and so it’s good that Lenovo and Motorola are working to get a fix out quickly. In the mean time, if you’ve got a Moto G5 Plus on Verizon, you should probably disable VoLTE just in case you find yourself needing to call emergency services in the near future.
