Last week, a rumor suggested that HTC is prepping a new flagship that’ll utilize edge gestures to perform actions. Now more details on how that may work have leaked.
Details on the Edge Sense setup process have allegedly been leaked by Android Headlines. The screenshots show that the HTC U can use short squeezes and long squeezes to perform different actions, like launching the Camera app or Google Assistant. The setup wizard will apparently test your short squeeze and long squeeze to learn the power of your grip and help you to more accurately perform these gestures.
Today’s leak also hints at some of the HTC U’s other features. Those include U Sonic for setting up an audio profile tuned to your hearing, dual speakers, four microphones for surround sound audio recording, and camera features that include HDR+ and Smart Video Zoom.
Finally, this batch of leaked info hints at some of the HTC U’s specs. The upcoming flagship is rumored to include a Snapdragon 835 processor, 64/128GB of storage, 4/6GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 display, fingerprint reader, and a 3000mAh battery. It’s said that Android 7.1 will be preloaded on the device.
When it comes to its specs, the HTC U sounds like just about any other Android flagship that you’ll meet in early 2017. The major difference with the device is its Edge Sense gestures, which could make it way easier to use with one hand. Now we know a little bit more about how that Edge Sense feature will work, but we’re still interested in seeing how well Edge Sense will work in the real world and learning if it’ll be enough to make the HTC U more appealing that the other Android flagships out there.
