It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a new Android One smartphone, but this week that drought came to an end.
The General Mobile GM6 is now official. Launching in Turkey, the GM6 features a 5-inch 1280x720 display with 2.5D glass on its face, a fingerprint reader below the screen, and an 8-megapixel camera with flash above it. Around back there’s a 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, HDR, and phase detection autofocus.
Inside the GM6 is a MediaTek MT6737T quad-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 3000mAh battery. Also included is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
On the software side, the GM6 comes preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat. Because this is an Android One device, the GM6’s software is vanilla Android, and it gets regular updates from Google.
The General Mobile GM6 looks like a solid addition to the Android One family. It’s got a clean design and a decent set of specs, including features like a fingerprint reader and a selfie flash that you don’t always see on affordable phones. There’s no word yet on pricing for the GM6, but considering that it’s an Android One device, it shouldn’t be too hard on buyers’ wallets.
