Google for iOS app update bundles in Gboard, adds widget and new 3D Touch shortcuts

Google app iPhone

Google is showing some love to its iOS app by updating it with a few new features.

First up, Google is baking Gboard into the main Google app for iOS. Gboard is Google’s keyboard app, and it’s been available as a standalone download for months now, but it now comes installed with the Google app. You can access it by going into your Google app settings.

Google has also added a Trending on Google widget to its app. As its name suggests, the widget will show you popular Google searches at that time. To access the widget, you can swipe right on your iOS home screen, scroll to the bottom of the screen, tap “Edit”, then tap “Trending on Google.” Alternately, you can 3D Touch the Google app icon.

Speaking of 3D Touch, Google has added quick search actions to its iOS app. Simply 3D Touch the app icon and below the Trending on Google widget you’ll see Quick Search, Voice Search, Search for Images, and Search Incognito shortcuts.

Google has integrated 3D Touch support throughout its app, too. For example, you can hard press on Search results, Maps results, or cards to get a preview, or you can hard press on the G button at the bottom of the page to quickly start a new search.
