HTC will lay off 1,500 employees in search of profit

HTC has announced that it will lay off another 1,500 employees from its Taiwanese manufacturing division in a bid to restore its profitability. In a statement, the company says that it will reorganize itself (again) to better take advantage of efficiency savings as well as help cushion its non-existent bottom line. Officials have, however, pledged to work with the Bureau of Labor and help all of those affected.

As expected, a red OnePlus 6 has been made officially official by OnePlus.

The OnePlus 6 Red will launch in OnePlus's global markets. That includes North American and Europe, which will get the OnePlus 6 Red on July 10th. This red version of the OnePlus 6 will include 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and will cost $579.

OnePlus touts that it added a translucent orange layer to the red base layer of this device to help give it a bright, glossy finish. There's also an anti-reflective layer to help give the color a sense of depth and a silver accent around the camera.

"Deciding on this color was not without its challenges. We see individual colors as a way to express certain feelings or ideas. To us, red exudes enthusiasm and personality. It also represents an inner confidence and courage," said OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. "There is a kind of power in red, which the OnePlus logo has always tried to articulate. We hope you feel similarly empowered when you hold the OnePlus 6 Red this summer."

The OnePlus 6 Red looks pretty sharp, and it's nice to see the bright red hue wrap around to the outer edges of the device. If you agree and want to make the OnePlus 6 Red your next daily driver, you'll need be quick when it launches on July 10th, because OnePlus says that this is a limited edition model.

OnePlus also announced today that it will restock its OnePlus Bullets Wireless headphones on July 10th.

A tipster for Android Police has shared what looks to be a test for a questions feature in Stories -- add it to your creation and your friends can type their own answers, which you'll see listed by user. We've asked Instagram if it can confirm details, but the rollout doesn't appear to be too region-specific. You're looking at an Indonesian user's screen above, while Italians have also reported seeing the option.

Permanent LTE exploits steer users to rogue websites

LTE was theoretically supposed to fix the security holes baked into earlier wireless standards, but it isn't completely immune. An international team of researchers has discovered a attack methods (nicknamed aLTEr) that takes advantage of inherent flaws in LTE to direct users to hostile websites. An active exploit uses the lack of integrity checks in LTE's lower layers to modify the text inside a data packet. Since that's easy to determine with DNS packets, which direct traffic to website addresses, you can steer requests to malicious DNS servers and thus take the user to a website of your choice.
