ZTE Axon 7 update adds Night Mode, support for 256GB microSD cards, and more

ZTE Axon 7 Ion Gold

ZTE Axon 7 owners, an update is coming your way!

ZTE has announced an update to B25 for the Axon 7, which includes new features like Night Mode and support for 256GB microSD cards. The microSD card size limit used to be 128GB, so this update will enable Axon 7 owners to double their microSD storage.

The B25 update also brings with it some bug fixes and performance improvements, like optimizations for Do Not Disturb. Here’s ZTE’s full B25 update changelog:

  • Enables "Night Mode" setting
  • Supports 256GB microSD cards
  • Allows users to disable some stock apps
  • Optimizes the "Do Not Disturb" function
  • Fixes various Wi-Fi Calling issues
  • Improves device stability and security
  • Miscellaneous performance improvements and other fixes

This is a nice little update for ZTE Axon 7 owners, and it’s good to see ZTE continue to show love to its Axon 7 with new features. The phone got Daydream VR support and Android 7.1.1 earlier this year, and now owners can gain considerably more storage space with support for microSD cards up to 256GB.

ZTE Axon 7 owners, have you gotten this update yet?

HTC U 11 specs list leaks, Snapdragon 835 and 6GB of RAM in tow

HTC logo One M7 rear

Now that we’ve entered May, we’re getting closer to the official debut of the HTC U 11. We are still a couple of weeks out, though, and so the rumor mill today churned out a new leak to keep us satiated until May 16 rolls around.

A new report claims to spill the spec details of the HTC U 11. According to MySmartPrice, the HTC U 11 will come equipped with a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage, and a microSD slot.

It’s expected that the HTC U 11 will offer a 12-megapixel rear camera with UltraPixel 3, UltraSpeed autofocus, and optical image stabilization. A 16-megapixel camera will reportedly be located around front. Rounding out the rumored spec list is HTC BoomSound tech, a fingerprint reader, 3D audio recording, dual SIM slots, NFC, and an IP57 water resistance.

Those specs would make the HTC U 11 a flagship-tier device, even more so than the recently launched HTC U Ultra, which comes with an older Snapdragon 821 processor. Of course, the highlight feature of the HTC U 11 is expected to be Edge Sense, which will let you perform actions by squeezing the device. That feature is kind of tough to judge on paper, though, so we’re going to have to wait until we get the HTC U 11 in our hands before we know what it’s like to use.

Verizon thinks it can be a serious player in self-driving cars

Verizon has long had a strong interest in connected cars, and it's no surprise as to why: it stands to make a lot of money if your ride is constantly transmitting drive data or streaming music. It would only make sense that the telecom wants in on self-driving cars, then. To that end, Verizon's venture wing has invested in Renovo, an automotive startup that has lately turned its attention to creating a platform that would help manage a whole fleet of autonomous vehicles. Renovo wouldn't be taking Tesla head-on with this tech -- it would be focused more on ridesharing and other services where driverless cars would need to work in harmony.

Obviously no one should use this Slack bot to announce a workplace crush

The dating app Feeld, previously known as 3nder and commonly known as “Tinder for threesomes,” has just announced a Slack integration. Oh boy.

According to the Feeld site, the bot works like this — just open a direct message conversation with Feeld and @-mention someone you “have feelings for.” For them to find out that you did that, they’ll have to initiate a conversation with the bot and mention you. Otherwise, Feeld promises, your secret dies in Slack. It doesn’t mention how long the bot will wait for your crush to reciprocate.

Feeld includes some tips on how to keep things professional, including a brief reminder that “work is work.” In other words, please do not get so distracted by flirting that you get fired and their product...

Vizio’s new TVs don’t do apps the way you’d expect

When Vizio unveiled its “new” 2017 P-Series and actually-new 2017 M-Series TVs on Tuesday, it seemed as though the company was making a quick return to the old smart TV approach of preloading apps like Hulu, Vudu, and others onto the sets. Last year, no apps were included on Vizio’s TVs out of the box; instead, they were designed as great looking displays that hooked into Google Chromecast, allowing owners to stream content from hundreds of apps using their own smartphone. But despite Vizio going so far as to bundle an Android tablet in the box, this concept likely confused some consumers.

So it is true that Vizio is making a change this year. A select few apps will come included out of the box to make things more convenient for people...
